Michael Esenwa is an internationally recognized expert in asphalt technology and pavement design, with over 35 years of combined industry and research experience. He currently leads Design and Engineering Services at McAsphalt Industries, driving innovation in specialty pavement solutions for roads, bridge decks, ports, and airfields across Canada.
A licensed Professional Engineer in seven Canadian provinces and registered with COREN in Nigeria, Michael has played a pivotal role in advancing asphalt mix design standards and performance-based specifications. His work supports transitioning Nigeria’s bitumen grading from penetration to PG systems and implementing Superpave and Balanced Mix Design methodologies.
Michael is a Past President of the Canadian Technical Asphalt Association (CTAA) and an active contributor to the Ontario Asphalt Pavement Council. He has authored over 25 technical reports and publications and developed training programs for engineers in Nigeria and Canada, including courses on Superpave Mix Design Technology and road maintenance best practices.
As an educator and mentor, Michael bridges research and real-world application, shaping the next generation of pavement engineers. His leadership and technical expertise continue to influence international standards and best practices in roadbuilding.
